Chronic lower back and tailbone pain

Patient

Q: I am an 18 year old girl and I am healthy and in good shape. For several years, I have experienced lower back pain when lying down on my back. It hurts in the area right above my tailbone. When I am lying down and not moving I have no pain, but as soon as I try to roll or move I get sharp pains in my spine and tailbone. Several years ago I bruised my tailbone pretty badly but did not break it. Could this have something to do with my pain? Why am I in pain? What can I do to help? I just recovered from surgery on my shoulder so I really don't want to go to another doctor, if possible.

Thank you,
Rachel
