Chronic Shoulder Problems in 19 year old

Patient : I have had problems in my left shoulder since about 1 year ago. I injured it either doing martial arts or weight lifting. I saw an orthopedic surgeon, got an MRI, and it showed there was nothing wrong with it. However, I continue to have pain while working out, and now when I roll my shoulder it makes a nasty grinding sound with some popping. What could be wrong with my shoulder if an MRI showed nothing?
Symptoms:  grinding, strange noises from the joint, mild pain
