Patient: Is it safe to take 10mg Cipralex and 3mg Melatonin?

Doctor: Thank you for your question. Escitalopram (Cipralex) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor used to treat major dep ressive disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. We do no recommend that this medication is taken with any non-prescription sleep aid. Melatonin is a sleep aid but its strength and efficacy can vary from brand to brand, and may contain additives that can alter the efficacy of your Cipralex. We recommend that you consult your prescribing physician to determine if the specific brand of melatonin tablets you are taking can be take along with cipralex.Thank you for choosing Askthedoctor.com
