Clindamycin for UT infection?

Patient

Q: I've got what I know to be a urinary tract infection starting up - I'd like to head it off (have been drinking fluids, cranberry juice, etc). But we have no health insurance or money, as is the case with so many nowadays... but my husband had a bottle of Clindamycin, 150mg he had for his wisdom teeth extractions. I'm wondering if I can use this. I haven't taken any before (I'm not allergic to Penicillin as he is) and am wondering if it's safe. I'm not on any other medication for anything, nor do I have any ailments except low blood pressure disease.
