Cold with pain stiffness and swelling in neck

Patient

Q: 3 days ago I began to come down with what I believed to be a common cold. It started with a sore throat and over the last few days progressed to coughing and congestion. What I found to be concerning was a pain and stiffness with slight swelling in the back of my neck. For the duration of me being sick it has gotten worse, nothing seems to help. What could this be?

Symptoms:  Symptoms: Coughing, sneezing, congestion/runny nose, pain with stiffness and swelling in back of neck.
