Coming off blood pressure tablets.

Patient

Q: My partner, a 50 year old woman (but quite fit) was prescribed amlodopine 5mg about 18 months ago. Prior to that time her blood pressure was normal. At the time of being prescribed the tablets, obviously the BP was high, but she had a large amount of stress leaving a difficult partner, moving house and loss of work. Now she is very happy, relaxed with her own house (no mortgage) and local job. She has asked about coming off the amlodopine 5mg but the nurse at the dr's practice has told her that she will never be able to stop the tablets. Is this true?
