Patient :My boyfriend recently told me he once contracted herpes (years ago, when he was a teenager) on one spot on his lower thigh from a toilet seat. He said that his doctor said it wasn't genital herpes, and he wasn't at risk for spreading it. He had the one outbreak on his leg, and has never had one since, anywhere. We've had sex a lot without condoms and I was tested last week for everything, and all results came back negative. I guess I'm just confused because everything I've read online says you CAN'T get herpes from a toilet seat and there are only two types of herpes. I know he isn't lying because his mom also told me the same story (funny anecdote I guess..?) but I'm wondering if his doctor is full of it and he should be re-tested.
