Question:

Coughing in Inguinal hernia

Dear Ask The Doctor:
Would it be a good idea to keep coughing if you have a reducible inguinal diret hernia as it will keep it coming out and avoid danger of incarceration etc?

Answer:

I am unaware of any measures, aside from surgical repair, that can prevent incarceration or any of the other complications of a hernia.
