Patient :I am 22, I have had a problem in my left knee for 4 years which has now calmed down. This was diagnosed as a benign tumour. Occasionally when I go skiing at centres in the UK (usually for around 2 hours) my knees are painful for around 10 minutes after I stop, additionally I went white water rafting 3 weeks ago and was in a cold wet suit for around 2 hours, again I found my knees to be soar and stiff when finished. I regularly run, cycle and complete gym classes with absolutely no pain. However, two weeks ago I went for a fast paced intense run, the next day my right knee experienced some pain, this subsided within a week. However I now notice that upon extension of the lower leg/knee I get a crunching sound, this happens when I stand up/ extend upright/ walk upstairs etc, this is also painless. Please can you help?
