Damaged toenails

Patient : Last July I started working out again. On a treadmill I did 4 miles one day 12 the next and the 9 the day after that. The skin under my big toenails and the toes next to my big toes swelled up so much that it pushed the nail way up and they eventually all four fell off. They have grown back since then thank goodness. I figured I was taking too much biotin supplements as the cause and stopped taking them. I was also turned off of using the treadmill as the experience was tramatic. Wanting to start exercising again, today I went for a walk. I'm not sure the distance but I did 6 laps at local trails. I didn't feel any stress on my toes but now like 3 hours later I feel light coldness in my toes and on of my toenails next toy big toe that fell off last year has slight swelling to it. My question is, what's going on and how can I stop this so I can exercise with damaging my toenails?
