Danger in low hemoglobin-ferritin

Q: My ferritin level is 1 and my hemoglobin is 8.6. A friend who has also had gastric bypass had a level of 8.? and ferritin of .6 and was told to go to hospital asap for iron-blood transfusion due to she could have a heart attack or stroke. My nutritionist (for diabetes) is also extremely worried. My PCP is not that worried. She is giving me ferrous sulfate (liquid iron) but doesn't think I am in danger of heart attack or stroke. I am now confused. I am home alone a lot with my 18 month old daughter and if there is danger (especially heart attack and stroke danger) I can't be alone with her. Should I go to a hematologist or bring up the issue of transfusion with my PCP and force the issue?
