Patient :Dear Dr.
I am a 24 year old female, who suffers from terrible acid reflux. Over the last couple of months I have been experiencing a strange and very uncomfortable feeling in my throat area. Stemming from the upper chest and lower neck region and then around the voice box. It's hard to describe because it's not painful, just very uncomfortable. I've never suffered from it but reading stmptoms it's almost like an asthma sort of feeling. A heavy, pressured symptom that feels as though someone is strangling or sitting on your neck. Painkillers do not help as I assume it's because it's not painful. I'm desperate to get rid of it or to find some solution to treat it as it's really getting me down. I've also noticed and thought I would mention it as it could be related but over the last few days I have been experiencing a burning in mouth. It's aggravated by eating and drinking, whereby the back of my throat starts to burn and prickle and the base of my tongue. I have a post nasal drip sort of thing going on too, my nose isn't blocked, yet it does run and get caught at the back of my throat, making swallowing more frequent and difficult. I have no idea what's bought this on, if it's an allergy, a reaction or a separate issue? I take ranitidine x2 a day, I've been taking iron supplement sachets x2 a day and 20mg citalopram x1 a day. Are these side effects of any of these drugs? I thought it may be a food allergy but literally everything I put in my mouth seems to flare up these horrible sensations?
I hope you can help.
