Does numbing in the limbs mean I have diabetes?

Patient : I have been getting tingling/numbing feet (and sometimes ankles) with greater frequency. I've been told it could diabetes or hypothyroidism. I thought these were unusual at a young age. I am female and 23 years old. I am 5'4" and 190 lbs. (Yes I am aware it is an unhealthy weight and I have been trying to lose weight for 5 years to no avail.) But I am also a student with a "sitting job", so I am uncertain if I should be worried. But my mom has hypothyroidism and my grandma (on my dad side) has diabetes. So should I be worried?
Symptoms:  Numbness or tingling of feet and ankles
