Early Period while on birth control

Q: I started Minastrin 24 Fe birth control about two and a half weeks ago, but I was in between periods when I began. I've been extra diligent about taking it timely everyday. According to the pack, I am not supposed to start my period for another one-and-a-half weeks, but I started it the other day at the normal time of month. My questions are (A) is the pill working properly? And (B) do I take the placebo pills on my period or finish out the active pills and take the placebos while not on my period?

Symptoms:  Period on time--not affected by use of pill
