Eight Days without the patch, could i have ovulated?

Q: I would like to know how birth control protects you during your week off. I am on the patch and was a day late putting on my new patch (week 1) so i was technically 8 days without the patch on, the information on the box states that you shouldnt go more than 7 days without it so i was wondering how you are protected those 7 days whe you take it off and what are my chaces of ovulating since i was 8 days without it?
If i have a chance of ovulating, when in the cycle would it be, so i can use backup?
