Exercise and hernia mesh implants

Patient

Q: Hello Doctor; About 5 years ago I had a hernia operation, an inguinal hernia, and a year and a half before that I had one also., so I have one on my left side and one on the right. Every time I do some exercises the right side seems to bother me a little, so I wanted to know if its safe for me to exercise with mesh implants ? I also do some weight lifting, but nothing heavy.

Doctor

A:   It is perfectly safe for you to exercise with mesh implants. The pain you experience when exercising could be related to a strain muscle in the groin area. Adequate rest (no exercise) should relieve this symptom.
