Extreme knee pain

Patient: In 2003 I was kicked by a horse in the knee, I had to get stitches and the Doctor said it was fine. In both 03 and 04 I played volleyball and had several injuries where it made it hard to walk or stand on my knee. Since then I have had on and off issues with my knee hurting. When I exercise the back of my knee pulls. When I’m walking or going to sit the outside of my knee and my knee cap hurts and pulls. I have gone to physical therapy which helped for a little while but the pain always comes back. Lately my entire knee hurts when I’m exercising, walking, and sitting. I was told I need to strengthen my knee which I have been working on doing however it is very difficult when it gives me great pain. My family thinks I should get suggested to go get an MRI, what do you think?
