Falling asleep randomly, waking without recollection

Patient : Hello, I have problems staying awake throughout the day. Often times I'll find myself waking up without ever realizing I had fallen asleep. At most I can keep myself up for about 20 hours but this results in extreme discomfort and vivid hallucinations. I typically stay awake for about 10-12 hours before I absolutely need a nap. I currently work a twelve hour shift located an hour away from my home. I find myself frequently falling asleep on the way to and from work. I usually fall asleep between two and three times at work. It usually last between 20 minutes and an hour and a half. I find it difficult to move when I'm asked to do something that makes me upset. (I become so weak when my wife asked me to get her a drink as I was falling asleep that I fell onto the floor in the hallway). I usually get three to four hours of sleep a night. If I sleep more than that I wake up sore and cranky. I have difficulty falling asleep when I'm happy. I have been known to fall asleep during conversations, movies, games, and even while driving. My wife has told me that if she tries to wake me I get violent (sometimes physically) and sometimes will hold full conversations with her. I have no recollection of these events in the morning and I'm not typically a violent person. I have taken a sleep study and an EEG both times I have been told that I have had a high potential for narcolepsy. I was wondering if these problems sounds severe. I am currently debating taking a Multiple Sleep Latency Test. In order to increase my disability rating with the VA because I am starting to be late to work frequently and I am not sure if I would be able to hold a job where I am constantly supervised and can't risk falling asleep. What are your recommendations?
