Patient :For the past 3 years (starting around age 23), I've had some elevated blood pressure readings when I go to the doctor (around 136/81). When I get my blood pressure read at the pharmacy, it's usually around 121/80 (maybe because I'm less nervous in that environment). I still wonder why my blood pressure is high normal- elevated though. I'm only 26, my bmi is 18, I run 6 days a week and I eat an extremely healthy vegetarian mostly vegan diet with almost no added salt. My blood pressure used to be a little lower and seemed to go up after I started taking oral contraceptives. I wonder if that is something I should discontinue. I've read that blood pressures systolic blood pressure should be kept closer to 100 for better overall health; what else could I do to improve my blood pressure?
