For the past 7 years, I get itchy hives all

Patient

Q: For the past 7 years, I get itchy hives all over my body every time I get a cold. I had a cold about 3 weeks ago and the hives lasted for a week, whereas they would usually only last 2-4 days. I have apparently developed another cold as the hives have returned and are so severe they wake me up at night. Benadryl helped last night but made me drowsy all day today. Should I go see a doctor? What might they suggest? Should I just wait it out?
