Herniated disk at L five S one that touches sciatic nerve.

Patient : So last November, I injured my back. I had a herniated disk in my L5S1 which is your lower back. Over a year later, it still can really hurt at times. I've had physical therapy, chiropractic services, strength training, electricity treatment, 'cream' that might help' these back patch things that didn't do anything, and Meloxicam, a muscle relaxant. Nothing has worked except resting it. However I am an active high school girl. The next step would be steroid shots in my back, then after that, surgery. My dad had the same problem and had surgery. However the way my disk sticks out it touches my sciatic nerve and that causes my hips and sometimes down my legs to hurt. All I want is for it to not hurt anymore. The physiatrist said it can take up to a year to heal, but it's been over a year and it still hurts. I'm at my whits end and I don't know what to do. I can't just sit around forever because that won't solve anything. Someone please help me, I'm too young to have this bad back!
