High blood pressure for five straight days

Patient : For 5 days my blood pressure has ranged from 170-188 over 104-138. Went to the ER on the first day, cat scan, EKG, xrays and blood work all came back normal and sent home to follow upwith family DR. Saw him later that day and he ordered a stress test and more blood work. Earliest appt for stress test is 8 days after seeing him and my follow up is 3 days after that. Is this normal with BP being this high consistanly and for so long or is there something else I should be doing?
