Patient : I have suffered with menstrual migraines for years. I also feel pretty dreadful during my period headachey, a bit sick, stomache cramps, loose bowels. Recently my periods have been worse than normal and I am having migraines more often which are harder to recover from. Usually my triptan tablets and or migraleve and a good night's sleep sort it but currently I am struggling to sleep when a migraine occurs. I feel quite 'wired' and when I do start to drift off I constantly 'start' awake as if my body is falling and if I do drop off my sleep is fitful. I then wake feeling dreadful. My usual hormonal headaache occurs anywhere between a few days before the start to after the onset. The 'extra' migraines I am now having occur a week to ten days beore my period is due. I am 43, have never had chidlren and my periods are regular (27 - 29 days). Any advice you can give on the cause and possible treatment would be appreciated as I am having to take time off work quite often. I have read that magnesium and riboflavin can help to moderate oestrogen levels. Do you think this might be of help to me?
