Molluscum contagiosum is a skin lesion that looks pearly, just slightly darker than surrounding skin, 0.2cm – 0.5cm in s size w/ a characteristic dimple on the center. It can be transmitted through skin to skin contact (yes, that includes sexual intercourse) and also in swimming pools. The incubation period (time interval from acquiring the virus to manifesting signs and symptoms) is 2 weeks to 3 months. The best way to prevent transmission is avoiding direct skin to skin contact, contact with contaminated objects like doorknobs and faucet handles and Sexual contact with an affected partner until the papules resolve completely. For the treatment a combination of Curettage, cryotherapy and topical agents used for warts may be helpful. It would be recommended for him to get an evaluation of his condition with his primary care physician or preferably a Dermatologist.
