Hypertension medicine ramipril vs renitec or other alternative

Patient : Hi, I'm a 50 year old woman who has been taking renitec for hypertension (since I turned 40) and now my doctor informs me it's been discontinued (at least in my country: Kenya). He's suggested ramipril instead. Is this a similarly potent drug, and are there any side effects I should be aware of? Are there any other drugs you can suggest for a woman of 50 with a history of hypertension without many side effects (especially water rention which I'm prone to?) Many thanks for your help Doctor.
