Patient :I am 24 year old male, underweight. I have been diagnosed with hypertension. The reading has constantly been between 150-180 in systolic and 80-100 in diastolic. The fluctuation can be a result of the nervousness that I feel around doctors. The doctor has put me on Metoprolol 50 mg and Telmisartan 40 mg. I have done all the tests ECG, Echo, Renal Doppler, all kinds of blood tests. Nothing was wrong with my heart, kidney or liver. I used to smoke and drink alcohol a lot but I have given it up completely. But rarely when I take 3-4 puffs of smoke(that is once or twice in a month) my left arm starts to ache and it slowly goes away on it's own. Why this happens? And can you honestly tell me how many years am I going to live if I keep my blood pressure under control with the help of medications and exercise etc?
