Patient :I am Male 36 years from Chennai , India.I recently had a blood test done . I found my Fasting Blood sugar to be 200 md/dl and post prandial to be 271 mg /dl . I have been prescribed Metformin Hydrochloride Sustained release 500mg - 2 times a day , Statin (lower cholestrol ) - once at night , Multivitamin Tablet and general supplements to improve liver funcrion. Ever since I have been diagnosed with Diabetes Melitus , my wife and I are worried . I have made drastic changes to my diet to eliminate carbs and include more of vegetables ( I am a pure vegetarian) . I have started walking 30 to 45 minutes in the morning everyday. I was weighing 85 kgs during the test and now 83 Kgs ...Planning to reduce further. My concern is whether I will have to be on medication for lifetime or it can be weaned off? Cant I ever touch sweets or sugar for life ? I have a genetic predisposition towards DM as both of my grandparents had them (Father's side) , although my father never had them.
