I had an intercourse with my partner on 18th April

Patient

Q: I had an intercourse with my partner on 18th April without any protection... However I have taken postinor 2 on 21st April...my period due date was 20th April..I have missed period of 5 days...

Doctor

A:   Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I understand your concern.
Usually emergency contraceptive pill can give protection if taken within 72 hours of intercourse.
With increasing time gap between unprotected intercourse and intake of emergency pill, the efficacy of pill in preventing pregnancy will decrease.
So, better to go for urine pregnancy test once to find out the possibility of pregnancy.
If test gives negative result, you can wait for one more week and possibly you may get periods by that time.

Take care.
