Patient :I had unprotected sex about 5 days ago, I came inside my partner. My partner is on Mercilon (she is on her third week), her first cycle taking it. How safe is she from getting pregnant? She has been consistent with taking the pill, almost same time everyday. She did not fall sick, did not vomit, no diarrhea, didn't take any medicine that contradicts with Mercilon. However, she does "feel" like she is getting her period soon. But by right Mercilon should stop her period and at most cause some spotting. Could you advise. Looking forward to hearing your expertise.
Thanks for the query,
If your partner has been on merciless which is a combined oral contraceptive pill and she has been regular from day 2 of her menses then she stands protected from pregnancy as ovulation would have been prevented in this cycle and if no ovulation then sperm cannot cause pregnancy even if there has been an ejaculate. The pill is not a progesterone only pill, hence will not stop themeless but will cause a withdrawal in the sugar pill or inactive pill week or the pill-free week. Rest assured. If the menses resume then it is further confirmed that she is pregnancy safe,
