I have a splitting headache and I'm unsure on what

Patient : I have a splitting headache and I'm unsure on what I can do at home to relieve it. I have tried laying in a dark room with no light or sound at all with no improvement, just progressing pain. The pain is a nasty ache with a sharp throbbing pain across my forehead spreading over my head. It is worrying because I never get headaches and this is the worst one I've ever had. It is very persistent. I was just hoping to get some advice on what I can do at home to help it. Thanks
Symptoms:  Persistent headache
