I have had three cholesteatomas in the past five years

Patient

Q: I have had three cholesteatomas in the past five years. I've lost the majority of my hearing in my left ear. I have had this spot in my ear that hasn't quite healed up since my last surgery in December which is why I still have monthly appointments. However, the past week my ear has constantly been draining a brown almost gooey smelly drainage and sometimes even blood. I've had pain constantly all inside the ear and behind it. I went to a doctor today, and be told me my middle ear was inflamed and I have drainage coming from far back inside the ear. He said right now he couldn't tell what the problem was and I would need to come back to see the surgeon in two weeks because I might be looking at another surgery. Can anyone tell me what this might mean or what it could possibly be?
