I have horrible cramps from my period and I can't

Q: I have horrible cramps from my period and I can't sleep at night because of them.... how can I get rid of them?

Symptoms:  Cramps

A:   Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I understand your concern.
Pain during periods is called dysmenorrhea.
Some teenage girls may have severe dysmenorrhea because of causes like unaccustomed pain, increased sensitivity to pain, gonadal hormonal imbalance, very small cervical os etc.
By taking medicines like antispasmodic drugs pain can be relieved to some extent.
In severe pain, hormonal pills can decrease the pain by making the cycles anovulatory.
Rarely if medicines do not work, you may need treatment options like cervical dilation.
So, please do consult your doctor once, get examined and take treatment accordingly.

Take care.
