I have sinus problems about once or twice a year

Patient : I have sinus problems about once or twice a year where I will have to go to the doctor and get a prescription. About 3 days ago I started getting thick darker drainage going down my throat and some getting stuck. My head and nose is fine. My throat has gotten sore from trying to get the mucus up and the drainage has not gotten any less. Will this go away on its own or should I go to the doctor?
