I need to know what to do.

Patient

Q: I have nightmares about 2 or three nights out of the week, and the other nights I will have very vivid dreams. I've been having nightmares since I was about three and it hit a peak when I was about 7 or 8. It's settled down a little since then, but these dreams have me getting out of bed and turning on the light switch, or sitting up straight in bed gasping for air. Should I talk to my doctor about sleeping pills? Melatonin doesn't help me either. It just makes my dreams more vivid.

Symptoms:  Trouble sleeping, nightmares, tired during the day.
