I recently switched birth control from the depo shot to

Q: I recently switched birth control from the depo shot to the implanon. I was on depo for 1 year. I waited 2 months to start having unprotected sex with the depo because I was worried and wanted to make sure that there wasn't a chance for pregnancy. I haven't used condoms with my husband since then. I was happy with the shot. But since I wanted something that lasted longer I switched to nexplanon. I didn't have it inserted until 5 days after my shot was due. I couldn't get it while I was on my period because I haven't had a period since I got on depo. Anyway it's been 8 days since the insertion of my nexplanon. The doctor told me to wait a week to have unprotected sex but Im worried it's too soon. I'm thinking maybe I should wait longer to stop using condoms. I've read online that doctors tell their patients to wait 2 weeks. So is 7 days too soon? If I have unprotected sex today will I be protected?
