Patient :I had unprotected sex a few days ago. The same day I took plan B. Now, about 5 days later, I still haven't started my period so I took a home pregnancy test, it said positive. Am I pregnant?? What are some reasons this could happen if not? Please help!
Symptoms: Positive home pregnancy test, extremely moody
Thanks for the query.
I understand your concern.
Usually, emergency contraceptive pill can give approximately 90% protection if taken within 24 hours of intercourse.
After taking emergency pill, you can get withdrawal bleeding in one week to ten days.
But as your urine pregnancy test gave a positive result, there is some possibility of failure of emergency contraception.
To be sure, you can go for a blood test for pregnancy or ultrasound which can give more accurate results compared with the urine test.
