I was put on Keppra for seizures, not related to

Q: I was put on Keppra for seizures, not related to epilepsy, about 6 months ago. I haven't had any since but do not wish to take this medication anymore as I'm not an epileptic, but these were spiked by alcohol consumption. I no longer drink at all. I have been on a 1000mg a day dose (500mg 2x a day) and I have started to ween myself off using 250mg less each week method I read about on a few different sites. Is this safe? I am trying to get in too see the doctor that prescribed them to me but I'm falling in a rough patch of running out of pills before he is available to see me, and has a strict prescription protocol. I would just like some reassurance that what I'm doing is indeed a common route for one wanting to get off this medication. Thank you!
