Patient :I'm 21 weeks in my current pregnancy. I had a missed miscarriage at 23 weeks last year, the baby had been gone since around week 16 -17 is what the drs said. No reason was given and all test and ultrasounds were normal with the pregnancy until I spotted a drop of brown blood and went to the hospital and found out she was gone. They had to induce me because I was not dilated at all and do a d&c after I gave birth because the placenta would not detach. Went to my dr for my routine monthly appt and he wants me to take progesterone injections, 1 per week for 6 weeks, just in case because of what happened with my previous pregnancy. I have three other children and have never had any pregnancy problems before. My progesterone levels in my first trimester, around 6-8 weeks, was 48.3 and he has not tested my levels again recently. He gave me a prescription for hydoxyprogesterone (p17) and everything I have read says that this is only for women who have had a previous preterm labor/delivery. I never went in to labor. I never had one contraction, and they checked at the hospital, until they induced me. I don't want to take something if I don't really need it. I think what happend to me is considered fetal death and a missed miscarriage. I want to do the right thing for my baby and body, just not so clear what that is.... Any advice? Thanks
