Patient :My father had, and I have, some trouble with falling asleep or going back to sleep after waking up during the night (e.g., for bathroom). In other words, he was, and I am, a light sleeper. I am 65 years old, in excellent shape thankfully. I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs; I eat healthily and workout and exercise regularly. .25-.50 mg Ambien works for me (usually .25 mg). I don't wake up groogy; rather, I wake up refreshed. I have never experienced the rare, publicized side effects. Is there any reason why I cannot use Ambien indefinitely in the above dosage? I read an article by a Mayo Clinic physician who had no concern in a similar situation. Thank you in advance.
