Patient : Well my my family physician put my fourteen year old daughter on birth control. Her periods were so heavy that a tampon would only last her an hour and so irregular. Sometimes she'd have her period for two weeks then get another one two weeks later and then not have one for two months. So he put her on Yaz first. Before putting her on the pill he did send her for an ultrasound which came back normal and did a PAP smear. The first month on Yaz her period lasted roughly a month. The second month was a little bit better and the third about the same. She was on that for sixth months, but found that she would only be a week or two in and her period would start. So she went to change it, got sent for another ultrasound and then he put her on a new prescription called Marvelon. This is one I've never heard of, but she is still having the same problem. She's getting very flustered with all of these tests and so am I. What could be going on? Just in case you don't know Yaz contains 3 mg of drospirenone and 0.02 mg of ethinyl estradiol. Marvelon contains 15 mg of desogestrel and 0.03 mg of ethinyl estradiol
