Is there a mental illness in which a person hears

Patient : Is there a mental illness in which a person hears "voices" that are not bad or good but more like have different opinions than theirs and that they debate with in their head? My friend will get quiet and say he is debating with the voices. One says no the other says maybe and he himself thinks yes and they all debate internally. He has a girlfriend he has friends he works and has a normal life but he is worried about these voices and so am I. Is this something that can be treated with medication?
