Kidneys and Type II diabetes

Patient

Q: I am a 66 year old man. I have Type II diabetes. Tests are showing an increase in microalbumin levels in my urine. I take losartan for blood pressure and am now at the maximum dosage. My last a1c was 7.6,whichmy doctor says is ok for a man my age. Is there any other medication I should be taking to protect my kidneys, for blood pressure or insulin to reduce my blood sugar?. I take Metformin 2 grams a day.
