Knee pain

Patient : I have a hard bone like knot on the top of my knee cap. It hurts to touch it. The knot does not move it does pop when I bend my knee in and out. If I sit for along period of time my knee hurts and when I straighten it out the pain is excrushanating like a knife digging in my knee. It's not swollen, does not hurt to walk, run, climb stairs nothing but it DOES hurt bad to squat, crawl, and sleep or sit with knees bent in and hurts even worse to straighten them out. Started with one knee now it's in both knees. One knee has locked up one time! This came on all the sudden! WHAT IS IT?
