Knee pain

Patient : I recently got an MRI done on my right knee. I just need an explanation of what the medical terminology is saying. This is what the written report says…. "There is a small joint effusion. There is a tiny popliteal cyst. There is chondromalacia patella with full thickness and partial thickness tears of the medial more than lateral patellar facets. There is chondromalacia with partial thickness tears of the apposing trochlea." Does this generally mean surgery would be needed to repair it?
