Patient : Every now and then i will experience major pains under my left knee cap. it is a throbbing, burning feeling that lasts anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. I will sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to fall back asleep. About a month ago the pain was so bad that I could not get up out of my bed and I was in tears. I try ice and heat, but so far the only thing that has worked is tylenol PM. This pain started out when I was probably 12 or 13. Then, I figured it was something to do with growing pains. But now at 17...I have a feeling it isn't growing pains any more. I have never had any injuries to my knees. I used to play volleyball and soccer but am no longer playing either. The pain happens inconsistently also. I thought maybe it was because of overuse, but it happens even when I am inactive.
