Leg Lengthening Procedure Timing for Infants

Patient: How soon can an infant receive correctional assistance or surgery for a short leg?

Doctor: There are several different procedures for limb lengthening. The underlying cause of the limb length difference will det ermine the procedure to be performed. most surgeons recommend waiting until age 3 before performing a limb lengthening procedure. Until then when the child is able to stand/walk a prosthesis can be used to equalize limb lengths.
