Live Shingles vaccine causes Shingle outbreak

Patient: Our neighbor had shingles vaccine, came over to visit an hour later, have had several outbreaks since childhood after having Chicken pox ) … coincidence?

Symptoms: sores and blisters all over body… palms and feet are really bad: red swollen popped blisters.

Doctor: Thank you for your question. Exposure to an individual who has had the shingles vaccine can not induce an episode of shi ngles in another person. If you have had chicken pox before, then the virus that causes chicken pox, varicella zoster virus, remains dormant within you. Reactivation of this virus, often times in mid age, results in shingles.Thank you for choosing askthedoctor.com
