Lost and skipped a birth control pill

Patient : Hi, my name is Kayla and I'm 21 years old. I'm taking Sprintec birth control, the kind that you take 21 active pills and then 7 sugar pills. I have always been good with taking my pills, but on the Friday of the second week of my pack (that would be the 13th active pill in the pack), I lost the pill. I couldn't find it and so I asked my mom what to do and she told me to just skip it and take Saturday's on Saturday and so on. After I'd already done this, I read that I should have taken Saturday's pill on Friday and so on. I don't know how true this is, but it was already too late at that point. On the following Monday (the 16th active pill in the pack), I started spotting and that next Wednesday (18th active pill), I started bleeding more heavily. I have been bleeding on and off ever since. It will seem like the bleeding is stopping, and then I will start suddenly bleeding heavily. I finished the active pills as scheduled and today is my 2nd sugar pill. I had planned on just finishing this pack as scheduled and starting the next one as scheduled, even though my cycle is obviously all wacked out. I was wondering if this is the correct thing to do and also when I should expect my bleeding to stop and my cycle to return to normal-ish. Thank you!
Symptoms:  Vaginal bleeding, birth control, missed pill
