Lower back pain and swelling

Patient

Q: I am a 20 year old female and I recently fell while skiing and hit my lower back on some rocks. The area is extremely tender to any pressure and swollen which does not seem to get better with ice. While I am very stiff, I really don't have too much of a problem walking other than pain in the affected area as well as my right hip. I've been icing for a couple of days and it doesn't seem to be helping and while heat does help relieve some of the stiffness, it does nothing to relieve the other symptoms. Also, when I try to run my fingers up my spine there is a weird, 'crunchy' feeling. As I've never had back problems before, I don't have much of an idea of what I should be worried about. Is this something I should go in to see a doctor for, or will it get better with heat and ice?
