Macrocytic anemia

Q: Hi My father( age 52 years) is suffering from Macrocytic anemia as per the Doctor in SVIMS. The Hemoglobin level is 9.5% and he lost a lot of weight (55 kgs now). He was an alcoholic (But, he stopped it couple of months back). He had undergone Subdural hematoma operation 4 years back and was on epilepsy medication since then (Eptoin and Fresium 10mg). Now he is suffering from body pains, weakness and some times swelling of body parts including face and limbs. After doing some tests, docters said he didn't have any problem with Kidney, lungs, liver and Heart. Please suggest. Doctor suggested Iron capsules but after taking them he was suffering from Dysentery.Taking all the medicines (fresium and iron ) is making him very drowsy and week.
